CANSKATE

What is CanSkate?

CanSkate is Skate Canada's premier learn-to-skate program. When you join CanSkate (Stages 1-6), you'll enjoy a program that emphasizes fun, participation, and the development of basic skills.

Our lessons are conducted in groups and led by NCCP-certified professional coaches, with support from trained Program Assistants. Skaters move at their own pace, with coaches using teaching aids, music, and a variety of activities to create an engaging and fun learning environment. CanSkate is the gateway to all other Skate Canada programs.

Who is it for?

For beginners aged 4-12, for those wishing to improve their basic skills whether their focus is for figure skating, hockey, speed skating or just skating for fun.

What Will You Learn?

In our CanSkate program, you'll develop a solid foundation of balance, control, and agility skills through six progressive stages. These essential skills are beneficial for hockey, ringette, speed skating, figure skating, and recreational skating. Our nationally tested and proven curriculum ensures quick and effective development of these core abilities.

You'll learn the six fundamental skating movements:

  • Forward skating
  • Backward skating
  • Stopping
  • Turning
  • Spinning
  • Jumping

What can you expect?

Action, movement, and fun! Lessons are given in a group format with a coach-to-student ratio of a maximum 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities that create a motivational environment and promote learning. Badges, ribbons and other incentives are used to benchmark skaters’ progress and reward effort and participation.
